Gimme more (scandals)

A fashion statement inspired by Britney Spears’ scandals.

  • Find a theme related to the fashion world and use narrative, styling, and art direction as vehicles to make a statement. The narrative must be told using photography, an editorial, and an audiovisual fashion teaser. This will then be concluded in a 20-minute presentation.

This experience also includes a one-hour photoshoot where groups must work with a professional model in a studio.

The Teaser

Our video features a Britney fan around 18-23 years old. She’s been molded by others and societal expectations to behave and look a certain way, but remembering Britney’s scandals she’s had enough. She pushes those influences to the side and begins to act and dress how she wants. In doing so she knows she’ll create a reaction but doesn’t care because she’s being her true self. THE CONCEPT

How you build yourself isn't always pretty; it can be messy and that process is no one else's business. We are exploring the process of finding comfort in being fully yourself. We tend to define ourselves by the morals we are taught (via fairy tales, our parents, headlines, etc.) but there comes a time when we realize we don't have to fit into those molds. Breaking free from these constraints will inherently be a scandal and offend people or make them unhappy - and it's okay; it's leading you closer to yourself.

Headlines are modern day fairy tales - it is how we process morality today. The morals they teach aren't always right. We should feel more empowered to push against them and be unafraid of setting boundaries, breaking social norms, and following your personal moral compass.

We chose Britney Spears as the inspiration for our concept because she is an internationally recognized figure who’s life has been highly documented in a variety of mediums. Her scandals were a vehicle for us to dive deeper into this concept.
